My initial thoughts of this class is simply just wow! Thanks to this class and most of all Matt, I am on a better track mentally and emotionally. I have found and made better ways to cope and live life to its fullest, all while being able to control my emotions and actions. I can proudly say that I feel like a completely different person than I was eight months ago. It has also been proven to me that I have learned many new ways on how to properly treat a woman and how to have a healthy relationship. One of the best things that I was taught during this class was the time-out. I have had experiences where I have chosen to take a time-out and have been able to calm down and help keep the situation in a good place.

I would say that not only Matt, but also the classmates helped make the class enjoyable and also helped teach me more skills to help me in the future. In the beginning I was worried about not enjoying the class or not getting much out of it but I really enjoyed the class and would recommend it to those who haven’t been arrested for domestic violence. I think the class focuses on so much more than domestic violence and teaches many helpful skills for a relationship and a family. Overall this class helped me a lot and Matt did an amazing job with this program.

I think what I found most conducive in the program was the open forum format versus a classroom setting (which I was expecting).  Being interactive with a group was much more comfortable and relatable.  The most important things I learned and took from this experience were...

1) The 4 steps:  Luckily for me and my relationship I have yet had to move past step 1, but just by recognizing an anger trigger changes my perspective.  I know I can call Time Out and then follow steps 3 and 4 if need be.

2) Communication and negotiation skills.  I love these newly learned skills.  They create much more productive conversations and results.

3) This one, by far, is the biggest: To continue to strive to be a better man.  Since I started the group, I find myself with a continuous birdie in my ear that reminds me to maintain being a “Good Man” and strive to be a “Better Man”.  That was what really hit home for me.

Thank you Matt!  You rock it and truly gave me insight and knowledge not only for relationships but for life.

I want to take this time to say thank you for the things you've done and all the knowledge that I have gained in your class. I definitely learned to avoid problems by dealing with situations differently. It was such an eye opening experience. The biggest takeaway for me was learning how to identify my triggers and finding healthy ways to deal with my anger.

It helped me understand that anger is a normal emotion but it's how we choose to express it that makes a difference. The class gave me practical tools and strategies to manage my anger in a positive way, and I feel more in control of my emotions now.

The positive knowledge I gained I am already using.  I see my relationships and my day to day situations completely differently.  When I encounter things that’s used to upset me, I use my Better Man Tools.   Thank you so much, I appreciate everything immensely.

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for what A Better Man Project and it's teacher have done for me. Like the twelve steps, I feel that is a course that everyone could benefit from. Matt McMillan is a man of deep principles as well as a man with a deep  understanding of what striving to be a better person should and does look like. Without his course, had I taken another, I don't know what my mindset would be like today and moving forward.

Firstly, I will go over the teacher. With a background like Matt's, it is no wonder why he got into this line of work, but that is not enough. Matt, based on what I've learned, has a singular purpose, when it comes to the course. He wants to make people better than they are walking into the proverbial door. He forced me to look into myself and take accountability for my actions. It is a blame free zone. With that said, it allowed me to see where I was at fault and strive to own it, learn from it, and change for the better.

Furthermore, for the first time in my life I understand what a healthy relationship should look like, whether romantic or otherwise. Matt taught me to set boundaries in a way that are not disrespectful, but to recognize value in myself. I now know there are no provocations in life. In any situation I have a choice on how I am going to respond to any situation. Which is where a time out comes into play. Now, due to Matt's direction, I know that I can take a 15 minute time out to look at the situation at hand and choose a better outcome. Rather than acting on negative impulses.

Secondly, the course. A Better Man Project, so aptly named does just that. I didn't walk in a perfect person, and I won't leave a perfect person. However, because of what I've learned I now have the tools to become a better man each and every day. I looked forward to Tuesday nights, as it was like having a top notch life coach right there at my side. What the class demands is to take accountability for my actions no matter the situation. Whether it's physical or mental, abuse is abuse, and no one should have to live with it or force it onto another. Once threats, violence, yelling, is brought into a relationship there can be no retreat.

In conclusion, this was/is the best course I've taken, and the curriculum  and the professor are perfect for what I needed to learn. When I began the course on the first day, I felt as though I was the victim. Now a lot of that is gone, (not all of it), but I can choose to accept the things I cannot change, be accountable, or I can keep coming back to classes like this one. I choose the former. Thank you to Matt and A Better Man Project for helping me to see the light.
